First Aid Appointed Person

This course is approved by Skills for Security / Training and
Management Services.

Aim
To enable a candidate to act as an appointed person to take charge of the first aid arrangements, including looking after the equipment and facilities and calling the emergency services where required. Arrangements should be madefor an appointed person to be available to undertake these duties at all times when people are at work.

It should be rembered that an appointed person is NOT a first aider and therfore should not attempt to give first aid for which they have not been trained.

Age Limit

Be a minimum of 16yrs of age on the date of entry.

Validity of Award

The Appointed Person award is valid for 3 years only, refresher training is recommended before the certificate expires.

Prerequisite

None

Length of Course

Training courses, including the final assessment, should last at least 4 contact hours. Contact hours means actual teaching or practical time. It does not include meal or coffee breaks.

Examination

Attend a 4-hour course of instruction; demonstrate the ability to carry out various defined first aid activities in a sfae manner. Demonstrate CPR and the preparatoractions preceding the administration of CPR. Complete the course worksheet.

Appointed Person Syllabus

On completion of traing successful candidates need to be able to apply the following competencied:

  1. What should be done in an emergency.
  2. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
  3. Dealing with an unconscious casualty.
  4. Control of wound and bleeding.
  5. First aid equipment.
  6. Employers risk assessment of first aid needs.
