FIRST AID AT WORK

The First Aid at Work Course lasts for a minimum of 24 hours and your attendance for all of these hours is required in order for you to complete the final examination. By the end of the course you will have covered, and will be able to demonstrate that you are able to:

1. Act safely, promptly and effectively with emergencies at work;
2. Use first aid equipment, including the contents of a first aid box;
3. Understand the duty of employers and the legal framework;
4. Maintain simple factual records on what you have done with regard to any treatment or management of an emergency;
5. Recognise the importance of person hygiene in first aid procedures.

The ability to administer First Aid safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty who:

1. Requires cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR);
2. Is unconscious;
3. Is bleeding or wounded;
4. Is suffering from shock;
5. Is suffering from an injury to bones, muscles or joints;
6. Has been burned or scalded;
7. Has an eye injury;
8. Has been overcome by gas or fumes;
9. or May have been poisoned or exposed to a harmful substance.

And you must be able to:

1. Recognise major illness and take appropriate action;
2. Manage the transportation of a casualty as required by the circumstances of the workplace.

During the course you will complete two multi choice papers as a test of your theoretical knowledge. The trainer will also assess you on your practical abilities. The outcomes of these ongoing assessments will be recorded on the back of each day’s timetable.
